first, be happy. don’t easily feel hurt.

second, if you get/feel hurt, don’t victimize yourself

third, if you victimize yourself, don’t blame, take responsibility

fourth, if you blame other people, don’t overcome evil by evil, but overcome evil by good

five, if you revenge, do no harm. don’t hurt yourself, your spouse or your children.

six, if you hurt others, be sure to apologize aftermath

seven, if you don’t apologize, remember something is hurt by you and they are innocent.

以前每天开odessey上下班,大概20mpg。200mile差不多要花30 ~ 40块。

Jesus Heals a Man Born Blind

// 今天要讲这个故事,又没有teachers guide,准备一下

1. He spend days sitting outdoors begging for money.

life is suffering. A blind person cannot see, cannot work, and can only beg to survive.

2. when Jesus’ disciples saw the blind man, they asked, "Jesus, whose fault is it that this man was born blind?"

life is even more suffering when get judged by other people.

People’s logic: "born blind" -> "he or his family must have sinned"

This is true in today’s world. When someone is unlucky, or lived miserably, we tend to judge them: he/she must did something bad. He/she is a loser.

We tend to be distant from these people to avoid sharing their life burden.

However, Jesus didn’t.

3. Jesus answered, "It’s not anyone’s fault. But it is an opportunity for God to show what He can do".

God’s judgement is different.

When Jesus is nailed on cross, he didn’t blame anyone. instead, he said, "they don’t know what they do".

So, never blame, take the responsibility. Or, take the opportunity.

Another story, "A Woman Caught in Adultery". Jesus said: “All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!”

So, in God’s view, everyone is sinned, no one is better than the other.

People tend to judge other people to show self-righteousness. This is a sin by itself. It shows people replace God with himself. It’s the result of eating the forbidden fruit, i.e. the fruit of knowledge of good and evil.

An even worse consequence of "human judgement" is that people use the human standards to judge themselves. We feel shamed when we are in-competent. We might also feel worthless, no hope, guilty.

So, "human judgement" is a path to death.

4. Jesus saved the blind man.

Jesus is compassionate. Jesus regard a person’s suffering as an opportunity to show God’s grace, to show God’s love almighty power.

It’s Christian’s responsibility/opportunity to help those in need.

5. The blind man listened to Jesus and obeyed. He walked to the pool and washed his eyes. Then he could see for the first time in his whole life. He jumped for joy and shouted, "I can see!, I can see!". Then he ran to see his family for the very first time.

God show his grace to everyone. But to be really saved, we need to take the action to accept the gift. This is not as easy as it sounds to be. It requires: 1) listen, 2) obey, 3) take action. Just see what our children’s reaction to parents/teachers commands then you know how hard it is. Moreover, it requires faith in God, which happens between 1) and 2). How can you believe those "simple actions" can cure you? Without faith, you are not able to do 2) and 3).

6. The blind man do witness, shared the gospel.

The story is not end. A saved person has the responsibility to share his own story so more people can believe in Jesus and be saved.

7. Religious leader do not believe.

Even they knew the blind man, even many people confirmed the fact. They don’t want to believe. Their heart is hard. They have high social status, high intellect, and not willing to admit Jesus, a "normal" people has more power. Again, this shows how hard for a proud person to believe in God.

judgement is an essential thing

without it, we can not move or can only do random move

think about AlphaGo. For each state (config of the current board), it needs to evaluate the goodness or badness and give it a score. This is judgement.

The major difference between professional players and amateur players is the quality of their judgement system.

So, we need judgement.

But, judgement are not equal.

According to bible, there’s two judgement system, people’s judgement system and God’s judgement system.

1 Samuel 16:7: But the LORD said to Samuel, "Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The LORD doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart."

We choose judgement system, other people choose judgement system and God has his own judgement system.

If we choose people’s judgement system, we choose hell to live in.

How we judge determine how we satisfy ourselves.

And things valuable in people’s judgement system is fragile and transient. It like grass quickly fade away.

But things valuable in God’s judgement system is everlasting.

1 Corinthians 13:13: Three things will last forever–faith, hope, and love–and the greatest of these is love.

So, God judge’s people by whether they have love in their heart.

But the spiritual person is able to judge all things. Yet no one can judge him. The Scripture says: “Who has known the mind of the Lord? Who has been able to teach him?” Isaiah 40:13 But we have the mind of Christ.
1 Corinthians 2:15‭-‬16 ICB

A person live with God’s judgement system has trascent this world and thus no one can judge him. Or, in other words, no one can hurt him by judgement.

“Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”
Matthew 7:24‭-‬27 NLT

What are you boasting about?

As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God.
1 Corinthians 1:29 NLT

Why? Because what you are boasting with is nothing in God’s eye.

It’s like a kid is boasting his toy in front of an adult.

Therefore, as the Scriptures say, “If you want to boast, boast only about the Lord .”
1 Corinthians 1:31 NLT

What does that mean?

So, if a priest boast how many people he has converted? Is that a good boast?

Or, if I boast about how much God blessed me? Is that a good boast?

If not, what should I boast?

God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God; he made us pure and holy, and he freed us from sin.
1 Corinthians 1:30 NLT

So, we boast about how Christ transformed us? Seems still not right.

OK. What Paul boast about?

If I must boast, I would rather boast about the things that show how weak I am.
2 Corinthians 11:30 NLT

What does it mean?

Again I say, don’t think that I am a fool to talk like this. But even if you do, listen to me, as you would to a foolish person, while I also boast a little. Such boasting is not from the Lord, but I am acting like a fool. And since others boast about their human achievements, I will, too. After all, you think you are so wise, but you enjoy putting up with fools! You put up with it when someone enslaves you, takes everything you have, takes advantage of you, takes control of everything, and slaps you in the face. I’m ashamed to say that we’ve been too “weak” to do that! But whatever they dare to boast about—I’m talking like a fool again—I dare to boast about it, too. Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they descendants of Abraham? So am I. Are they servants of Christ? I know I sound like a madman, but I have served him far more! I have worked harder, been put in prison more often, been whipped times without number, and faced death again and again. Five different times the Jewish leaders gave me thirty-nine lashes. Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I was shipwrecked. Once I spent a whole night and a day adrift at sea. I have traveled on many long journeys. I have faced danger from rivers and from robbers. I have faced danger from my own people, the Jews, as well as from the Gentiles. I have faced danger in the cities, in the deserts, and on the seas. And I have faced danger from men who claim to be believers but are not. I have worked hard and long, enduring many sleepless nights. I have been hungry and thirsty and have often gone without food. I have shivered in the cold, without enough clothing to keep me warm. Then, besides all this, I have the daily burden of my concern for all the churches. Who is weak without my feeling that weakness? Who is led astray, and I do not burn with anger? If I must boast, I would rather boast about the things that show how weak I am. God, the Father of our Lord Jesus, who is worthy of eternal praise, knows I am not lying. When I was in Damascus, the governor under King Aretas kept guards at the city gates to catch me. I had to be lowered in a basket through a window in the city wall to escape from him.
2 Corinthians 11:16‭-‬33 NLT

First, Paul has something to boast about, in world value system. But he think this is not worth to mention. Instead, he boast about his sufferings.

Paul revealed a truth: human being is vulnerable. You think you have wealth? Your wealth can be wipe away in a night. You think you are strong? A virus can easily make you sick. You think you are wise? Turns out everything you done is wrong.

Everything you owned is transcient and vulnerable, like grass can be easily withered.

Suffering caused vulnerabilities is what really happening to everyone. No one can escape that.

But, do you dare to suffer?

Paul does.

A man dare to suffer for Christ sake is a true warrior. He is the valuable person in God’s eye.

This boasting will do no good.
2 Corinthians 12:1 NLT

As long as you are boasting about yourself, it’s doing no good for Christ.

Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
2 Corinthians 12:9‭-‬10 NLT

Paul is willing to expose his suffering. Sharing suffering itself is courageous. In worlds view, it’s a sign of weakness. But in God’s eye, it demonstrated God’s grace, God’s power. We can endure suffering is not because we are strong, but because Christ helped us, saved us.

Back to the beginning.

God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God; he made us pure and holy, and he freed us from sin.
1 Corinthians 1:30 NLT

He saved us. He can save you too.

God chose things despised by the world

1 Corinthians 1:28

New Living Translation
God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important.

Contemporary English Version
What the world thinks is worthless, useless, and nothing at all is what God has used to destroy what the world considers important.

Aramaic Bible in Plain English
And he has chosen those of low descent in the world and the rejects and those who are nothing, to nullify those who are,

nullify: make of no use or value;

昨天带查的经文主题是关于God’s wisdom vs human wisdom

一说智慧,大家很容易联想到IQ, EQ什么的。或者科学知识。处事手腕。

个人觉得,这里的智慧是关于value system的。或者说价值观。what is important? what is not? or, who is a successful people? who is not?

why value system is important? because it determines your choices and actions. and your actions brings consequences. both short term and long term. more importantly, it determines how you think who you are? do you think you are a valuable person? do you think you are living a meaningful life?

26Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes or powerful or wealthyg when God called you. 27Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful. 28God chose things despised by the world,h things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important. 29As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God.

30God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God; he made us pure and holy, and he freed us from sin. 31Therefore, as the Scriptures say, “If you want to boast, boast only about the LORD.”i

boast: talk with excessive pride and self-satisfaction about one’s achievements, possessions, or abilities.
